I used to work for a large company that employed many administrative assistants.  I remember Administrative Professional’s Week (it was called Secretary’s Week then) being a big deal.  Some managers took advantage of the occasion to give special attention to those who assisted them.  They knew their lives would be much harder without them.  They also knew they received the glory when their behind-the-scenes’ assistants performed their jobs well.  So, they did special things for them during Administrative Professional’s Week and felt good about it.  Other managers forgot, or didn’t think it was important.  If they were to ask their assistants if Administrative Professional’s Week mattered to them, the assistant would wave it off like it was no big deal.  But, how could it not matter, when just an office away, another assistant was being showered with well-deserved attention?  There are so many easy ways that a manager can show appreciation, there’s no reason not to.
